Want to know more about…..

Donna Mizani, a 23 year old designer, has been recognized by her peers as one of the hardest working up and coming designers. By age ten, as a child born and raised outside of New York City, Mizani first became infatuated with clothes and aware of her keen sense of design. After high school she studied fashion design in Los Angeles, where she honed her experience through internships and live events, from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to countless runway shows for L.A.-based designers. Mizani was quickly recognized for her trend-spotting intuition, innovative fashion sense and strong work ethic, and caught the eye of various downtown Los Angeles heavyweight design houses.

Within a few years she worked her way up to head sportswear designer for a multimillion-dollar company, managing a dedicated staff and regularly creating new, mostly private-label lines for major retailers such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, among others. In 2008 she began designing her first resort collection, predominately knit silks, for her self-named label, which debuted in Harvey Nichols Hong Kong stores in November 2009.

Sweet as Honey Boutique is very excited and honored to carry these hot, celebrity driven pieces by Donna Mizani! We can’t wait to see what’s next for her on the road ahead. Check out some of her latest pieces in our New Arrivals category

How to dress the “Pear” Body…

Pear Body Characteristics

Most women that are considered to have a “Pear Silhouette” have a smaller top and a curvier bottom. Don’t get it wrong ladies! Just because you were blessed with a J.Lo bottom, does not make you fat. A lot of women that are pear shaped also have fairly flat stomachs. Pear shaped bodies should wear clothes that minimize the bottom half and draw attention to the upper part of the body with bright bold tops or tops with large collars or sleeves.

The Upper Half

Blouses and tops with beautiful patterns and textures draw attention up to your upper body up to your beautiful face

Do: 1)Choose an off the shoulder top, cowl or square neckline. 2)Have fun with color. 3)Consider a  puff, kimono or bell sleeves.

Don’t: 1)Wear a baggy top. Make sure it is flattering and fitted to show off that waist. 2)Avoid small or dainty collars that will make you appear larger than you actually are

The Lower Half

The golden rule is to reduce the emphasis on your hips, thighs and butt area.

Do: 1)Keep pocket designs to a minimum or not at all. 2)Stick to darker colors such as darker blues, dark gray’s, and black. 3)Consider Mid rise styles instead of low-rise. 4)Wearing higher heels gives you an appearance of longer legs and take attention away from your hips

Don’t: 1)Wear leggings or skinny jeans unless paired back with a tunic. 2)Choose pants with bulky side pockets, side button details or back pockets. These will create the appearance of a large bottom. 3)Avoid light or “washed” looking bottoms. Darker denim always has the sliming effect

The Perfect Dress

The easiest way to balance a bottom-heavy figure is to choose a dress that skims over the lower half of the body.

Do: 1) Look for A-Line or wrap dress, which are often the best cut for “Pear” shaped women. 2)Emphasize your bust with a lower neckline . 3)Consider trying a halter dress that will show of your waist, if you don’t feel comfortable wearing a strapless dress

Don’t: Wear tight stretchy dresses unless you would really like to emphasize your behind. Its just that simple!
